Description

Paul Greengard giving lecture in February 2002

One of Dr. Greengard's key discoveries was that the brain has a more complicated signaling process than was previously believed. "Before Dr. Greengard's time, the brain was seen as a gigantic network of wires and electric signals. Dr. Greengard brought a couple more dimensions to it. He brought the biochemistry of slow synaptic transmission; he brought cell signaling; he discovered and characterized many important proteins, signaling molecules and pathways, in what we call not the "Greengard Cascade." - Marc Flajolet, Research Associate Professor at the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Disease Research
