After the war, Paul Greengard attended Hamilton College, a small liberal arts college located in Clinton, New York, where he majored in mathematics and physics, and from which he graduated in 1948.
" The family definitely did not appreciate whatever intellectual skills I have. There was no interest in anything cultural or historical or anything beyond the daily bread, and they were very kind of - that would have been a way of putting down my sister, no praising me. So, I was lucky, I had to G.I Bill that paid my way through college." - Paul Greengard, Oral History
