Description
Pharmacy in the Hospital, 1954
About 1915 the business of purchasing and distributing equipment and supplies for the laboratories and the hospital grew enough to require a purchasing agent instead of a mere storekeeper. By that time also the hospital’s needs for prescriptions and medical supplies, until then met by an outside pharmacy, had increased sufficiently to suggest employing a pharmacist. Simon Flexner decided to combine the two duties into one post with Anthony J. Campo as its first head, and this arrangement worked so well that it had been continued throughout the institute’s first half century.
