Description
Mark Kac after the Christmas Lecture at the Rockefeller Institute, 1962
In homage to the tradition of Christmas lectures at the Royal Society in London, Rockefeller biochemist Alfred E. Mirsky founded a similar series for high school students in 1959, and they continue today. René Dubos delivered the first of these lectures.
Mark Kac (1914-1984) was a great Polish-American mathematician. His main interest was probability theory. He joined the Institute in 1961, when Detlev Bronk gave the Rockefeller instant status in physics and mathematics by recruiting researchers with international reputation.
