Rockefeller’s 14-acre campus, located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, might be compared to a scientific village. The research buildings, library, and technical support facilities are adjacent to residences, dining facilities, a children’s school, and a tennis court. The University’s dome-shaped Caspary Auditorium is the site of many lectures and concerts. Long allées, lined with London plane trees, walks, greens, two distinctive gardens, a hanging stairway, and a large open plaza were shaped by well-known landscape architect Dan Kiley between 1956 and 1958. Today, Kiley’s design forms The Rockefeller University’s green, modernist, aesthetic, academic oasis in the noisy and turbulent city.
