Description
Günter Blobel, October 11, 1999
“Early morning in October of 1999, Günter Blobel was awakened by a phone call from Sweden telling him he had won the 1999 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. At first, he thought it was a prank; then he recognized the voice of Nils Ringertz, the secretary of the Nobel Committee, and he realized that his 30 years of persistence, trying to find out how newly made proteins are transported across cell membranes, had been recognized with the most prestigious science award in the world” (Jane Everhart. International Journal of Humanities and Peace, 1999)
