In 1997 Peter Sellers took over responsibility for the Historic Instrument Collection from Dr. Chase who did not publicize the collection until 1976 when, on the occasion of the Rockefeller University’s 75th Anniversary, he curated an exhibition of fifty instruments in Caspary Gallery. When in 1997 President Torsten Wiesel gave formal recognition to a collection, it had 262 instruments or sets of instruments, all documented by Merrill Chase
