In 1954 The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research assumed the status of a graduate university. By action of the Boards of Regents, the university's charter was further amended to change the corporate name and thus describe more accurately present functions: in 1958 to The Rockefeller Institute, and in 1965 to The Rockefeller Univesity.
